1. Submit to directories. The old standard method of submitting your domain to directories might npot be glamorous or cutting edge, but it's free and it works! You'll get direct traffic from the directories, and also backlinks to help with your SEO efforts.
2. Social bookmarking. Bookmarking sites such as Delicious and social networks like Twitter and Facebook have become increasingly popular over the past couple of years. Most of them are free, and are a great way to get both direct traffic and backlinks. Submit your best content to sites like Delicious, and join in the conversation - after all, they are called "social" sites networks for a reason!
3. Getting backlinks. Backlinks are simply links from another website, back to your site, and the search engines consider them as "votes" for your site. As such, the more links you have pointing to your site, the better you will rank in the search engines.
